EDITION No.39 - DISTILLERS TEA

EDITION No.39 - DISTILLERS TEA

It’s no secret that the British love tea and sandwiches. This long-standing UK tradition dates back to the mid-18th century, when (literal) gaslighting allowed people to work later, thereby eating dinner later.
Bridging the larger gap between lunch and dinner was high tea: a mid-afternoon delight with tea, scones, sandwiches and polite conversation. However, if finger sandwiches and dainty cakes aren’t necessarily your jam (also, if jam’s not necessarily your jam), we’ve found the perfect way to replicate the high tea experience in a bottle, distilled with love and care.
How decadent! How delightful! How drinkable!

t’s said that Henry C. Ramos invented the gin fizz in 1888 at his bar, the Imperial Cabinet Saloon in New Orleans. Originally called a New Orleans fizz, it’s one of the city’s most renowned cocktails. Going back to the 19th century, bartenders who adapted Ramos’ recipe were steadfast in their belief that the Gin Fizz should be shaken so long the bartender would be crippled with headaches. We’re not endorsing this philosophy, but a hearty shake is recommended. Flash forward to 2023, we’ve taken a unique spin on the classic by adding our high tea-themed gin, orange juice and sweet Vermouth for the zesty qualities of the original, but with a delicate finish reminiscent of some of the finer gin parlours of the world.

The Gin Basil Smash is a cocktail invented by Jörg Meyer of the Lion in Hamburg in 2008. Considered a modern classic, it lures you in with a green tint, then knocks you out with its aromatic kick. Now, let’s take all that, and smash the Smash with a White Lady – a cocktail that predates the Gin Basil Smash by almost 90 years. Regarded as a classic Christmas cocktail, the White Lady boasts a bold mixture of flavours. The combination of the two in our Garden Lady bridges cocktail making across a century and lands with a light and refreshing hit.
