EDITION No.36 - GOOD DRHOP

EDITION No.36 - GOOD DRHOP

One of America’s founding fathers, Thomas Jefferson, once said “Beer, if drunk in moderation, softens the temper, cheers the spirit and promotes health.” He makes a good point – after all, he was the fellow who thought it was everyone’s right to have life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Within this bottle you’ll find a gin that lives for the pursuit of hoppiness, in a design that takes its inspiration from the southern parts of the USA ingeniously blending the full, herbaceous qualities of gin with resiny aroma of magnum hops. It’s a one stop shop. Or is that a one stop hop? Never fear. Beer is here.

Imagine you’re having a night on the town. Would you throw back a gin or two, or just keep things simple with beer? How’s about we take the decision making out of your hands? As the saying goes: liquor before beer, never fear. It’s a phrase that’s lasted, a) because it rhymes and is clever, and b) because it’s true. The traditional Southside is an easily made, refreshing concoction made with gin, mint, lemon and lime: it’s the mojito of gin cocktails. By making Good Drhop the drink’s ‘hero’, and finishing things off with a dash of your preferred lager, we’re bringing the best of both worlds together – a zesty gin flight of fancy that’s topped off with beer, of all things. Let our inspiration – lazy margaritas served in the American south – guide your drinking enjoyment.

Don’t think for a second we’ve gone Hollywood and are consorting with those movie star types and their tie-in gins. We’re way to sophisticated for that – we’re doing a deep dive into a pre-prohibition favourite of the world’s better bartenders. Dating back to the early 20th century, the Aviation originates in the pages of Recipes for Mixed Drinks, by New York’s Hotel Wallick head bartender Hugo Ensslin. The Aviation has a distinct flavour and look, both of which come from the addition of crème de violette – a liqueur made from and tastes like violets. It provides the Aviation’s distinctive, sky-like blue/grey hue (hence the drink’s name) and signature floral punch. With the addition of Good Drhop, the flavour profile will mean the sky truly is the limit.
