Edition No. 20 - Secret Garden

Taking a wander through a garden to clear your thoughts? Bliss. Walking out with a gin in mind? Now that’s what we’re talking about. There’s definitely something about unearthing potential gin gems hidden amongst the flora that we simply can’t resist. But it’s not just that the botanicals in our Secret Garden are those you’d likely find tucked away in rugged, slightly overgrown foliage. Take a pause while you sip this gin and you’ll discover that the balance on this beauty is such that each botanical seems to just whisper its way into the flavour profile. So, anyone for a stroll?

The Last Word

The Last Word began its journey in 1916, simply as an inclusion on the cocktail list of a souvenir menu for members of the Detroit Athletic Club. Later in 1951, the full recipe first made it to print in Ted Saucier’s cocktail book. The secrets of this boozy, yet balanced and tangy beverage then remained hidden until it was effectively re-discovered in the early 2000s in New York. Our Secret Garden is itself an unveiling of an almost-lost garden of botanicals, making The Last Word the perfect cocktail for this gin.

Gin and It Collins

The Gin & It is a cocktail that really should come with some kind of “enter at your own risk” warning. With only two ingredients, it’s incredibly easy to prepare and even easier to drink. Its beautiful simplicity lies in the gentle mingling of the gin’s botanicals with the aromatic herbs of the vermouth. So delicious in fact, that we went exploring for a way to lengthen it. A path emerged before us and we transformed it into a Collins - letting the delicate floral notes of our Secret Garden linger just that little bit longer.
