Edition No.39 - Distiller's Tea

Anna Maria Russell was the seventh Duchess of Bedford, and was one of Queen Victoria's ladies-in-waiting. Around 1840 she described a 'sinking feeling' at about 5.00pm, given that etiquette was seeing dinner served later and later in the evening. How to fill the void? Tea, bread and butter and cake. And a tradition was born. Over time, it evolved to include sandwiches and scones. This month’s Juniper Society gin takes those vaunted traditions, flings them out of the nearest window, and replaces the sandwiches and tea with gin and tonic. This is the no-mess, no-fuss alternative that removes the Duchess’ sinking feeling… without all the carbs or breadcrumbs.
